Mystery Women In The Acid Pools

The subconscious, humour, mystery, the physical side of music, pop culture... Nihilists are back the way we like it. After more than seventeen years, the third album of Moimir Papalescu & The Nihilists is here, entitled "Mystery Women in the Acid Pools".

     Since their beginnings, the trio has mixed electronica, post-punk, psychedelia, disco and many other genres in its work. The Nihilists follow this line on their new album and show that they have lost none of their ferocious and experimental style. The album is released by Indies Scope in collaboration with the Drug Me Record label. Fans can look forward to a special series of spring concerts around CR on the occasion of the record release in Prague's Roxy (March 13), Pilsen's Pod Lampou theatre (March 15) and Brno's Fléda (April 6).

     The albums Analogue Voodoo (2004) and Lewis Neptune (2006) were for a long time the band's only releases. Just when it seemed that the water had definitely closed after the Nihilists, the band returned to the stage with new singles, which are part of the current album. "So a few years have passed, we have a lot of new musical experiences, a slightly different way of working together and approach, and our musical influences have shifted or rather enriched, but at the same time we are still building on the same foundations...," says Hank about the new record. “Otherwise, in my opinion, the new record is much more danceable than the previous albums, which I personally like a lot, but it's kind of dancing on the edge of the abyss." The record is at times an explosive, at times a candy cane, and often a thick fog in which many people get lost without a trace. Singer Sonja adds: "I see it as a psychedelic dystopian dance album :)"

     The Nihilists have always been built on the contrasting personalities of the founding members. This tension is reflected throughout their work and is not absent from the tracks on Mystery Women in the Acid Pools. And as Hank admits, the tension between the different personalities makes Nihilists a unique band, "I love this mixing of our feelings and moods. For me, the dark side always transitions into the humorous and vice versa, there is no 'pure' feeling or style with us. I've always wondered just where these extremes meet. But it's about raising questions, certainly not answers. After all, that's what real art is all about."
