Krystyna Skalická is an accordion player and a new, expressive member of the Czech music scene, proudly committed to folk music as well as to the underground. She is an active participant in musical competitions and local clubs. The CDs Polish-Czech title JEDEN TANiEC (ONE DANCE) is bilingual like Krystyna, whose roots are with the Polish minority around Těšín. She lives in Prague. After the unofficial solo demo Kikiriki in 2003, this album is the official debut for which fans have waited many years and represents a rich culmination of her past and current work. The CD includes a selection of twenty original songs. They represent the coming together lyrics, old and new, by the poets I. M. Jirous, S. Lavrík, R. Putzlacher-Buchtová, B. Baronová and one folk song from the Těšín area. Krystyna sings in Czech and in the Těšín dialect after „our“, Polish and Slovak, therefore in languages that she has heard since childhood in her hometown Třinec.
„In spite of language and genre differences I wanted the album to present a complex
mood that is suggested by the title, ONE DANCE. With these songs you can let yourself
be carried away on a wave of joy and grief, to step into images and sit with me on the
bench in Charles Square at noontime, or to see a house on fire depicted in an SMS sent
from Slovakia…“
Appearing on the album with Krystyna are her long time friends and co-players:
Barbora Baronová on the violin, Michaela Kalašová on the clarinet, aliquote singer,
Ivan Vohrna and other friends adding their unique contributions as guest musicians:
Dorota Baronová - violoncello, Libor Heřman - contrabass, Jakub Schmid – trumpet, aliquote singer – Filip Rydlo, the Balcar couple and children Ema and Radek.
